MacKay, T. Greig, A. (2011, March). Fostering, Adoption and looked after children- a growth area for educational psychology. Educational & Child Psychology Vol.28 (3), 5-8

In Tommy MacKay and Anne Greig’s article; Fostering, adoption, and looked after children- a growth area for educational psychology the authors inform us about the common problems these children share and the problems they face in the future as well as the problems they have in their current classrooms. The article explains that the problems these children face in learning in the classroom can be directly related to the child’s feeling of abandonment and lack of attachment and development from their birth parents and how that they have trouble trusting authority figures such as the teacher.
This relates directly in our class as since us future teachers our responsible for creating a culture of acceptance and trust in our classroom, we need to be always cognizant that earning our students trust will take a while to attain and we must remain patient and focused on the student and their individual needs.
This Article helped me understand how important of a role I will play in mentoring my student in the classroom and out as well as to remind me that earning my students trust will not come right away and not all the students will trust me at the same time. The children in the fostering and adoption culture will most likely take the longest of time but also might be the most important relationship for not only myself but that student as well.
